CIL Apr coal output slides 3.4pct on yr

Coal India Ltd (CIL), the largest coal producer in the world, posted a year-on-year decline of 3.4% in coal production in April this year, said the company on May 2.It produced 40.09 million tonnes of coal in April as against the target of 44.48 million tonnes, achieving 90% of the target set for April.CIL's off-take also fell by 2.5% in the last month as compared to corresponding month last year, at 42.45 million tonnes against the target of 51.46 million tonnes.In a recent written reply in Lok Sabha, Coal Minister Piyush Goyal said that the company was chasing a production target of 598.60 million tonnes in the current fiscal. For FY17, the target of off-take of CIL was set at 598.61 million tonnes and out of this, 450 million tonnes will be supplied to power sector utilities.At the beginning of the current fiscal, coal stock of the company stood at 57.67 million tonnes. Coal stock increased during the last fiscal due to regulated lifting by power utility sector.In the last fiscal, the miner produced 536.51 million tonnes of coal against a target of 550 million tonnes and its off-take stood at 532.26.
